CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL 2011
I watched the Celebration of Gospel last night on BET, which I am sure everyone was watching. My homeboy Kirk Franklin opened the show with much energy which I believe a show should kick off with some hypeness! You have to know Kirk, to know that he is this way all the time! I still am wondering why Chaka Khan appeared, but I guess they wanted her on the show...never knew the song "Through The Fire" was talking about Jesus. But as always her voice is so silky smooth and crisp, loved it! I thought that Earnest Pugh, Vashawn Mitchell and James Fortune certainly brought the spirit of God into the room. I love Mary Mary's new song, and they really had me rocking. The tributes were great, always should remember our roots, we will miss Albertina Walker & Walter Hawkins. The climax to me was Whitney Houston & Kim Burrell, such an authentic performance and you could feel the genuine relationship that they have with one another. I could go on, but I will end by saying there is a purpose to everything. Many made comments on facebook, twitter, and other social sites about the show. What we must understand that this was not a SERVICE at your local church! This is BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION! where entertainment is the KEY word here. I applaud the Gospel Artist for bringing themselves outside of the 4 WALLS of the CHURCH and being in the presence of those that may need prayer, guidance, or biblical counseling. I recall Yolanda Adams for being criticize by "RELIGIOUS FOLK" for being apart of secular events...DUH...PEOPLE...that's where we are suppose to be.....Because we know Lil Wayne is not coming to NOBODY'S Church. So, go where they are and let your light so shine for the WORLD to see the Christ in you!....so SAINTS stop tripping!!
